Over our many years of providing financial planning services to expatriates of all nationalities we have noticed that seldom is consideration and attention given to the situation of expatriate women.
All the material on our other pages is, of course, as applicable to women as to men. But we include this section to draw the attention of expatriate women to the real need for them to give attention to planning their financial futures and to be involved in planning decisions.
Just because they are living far away from home and, very likely, feel themselves to be, meantime, in a financial 'comfort zone' is not a reason for expatriate women to ignore matters such as family protection, planning for retirement, property acquisition, providing for education costs, etc.
Almost always, because of higher salary, lower tax and 'extras' in the form of expatriate allowances, families have more disposable income than they ever had before and quite possibly more than they will have when they return home.
They have, therefore, a 'window of opportunity' for establishing a strong financial base and it is an opportunity which may not come again.
As an expatriate woman you will probably be a member of one of two clearly differentiated group:
- You are accompanying your husband or partner who has been assigned to or has chosen to work overseas.
- You are 'unattached' and, therefore, 'on your own' so far as personal financial planning is concerned.
You will find interesting notes and comments in the two sub-pages to this page.
